We look forward to the half term holidays knowing that we won’t have to cajole the kids to get ready for school, running around like a maniac finding pants, socks, making lunches, changing lunch bags as small doesn’t want the Mignon one today – get your shoes on, have you brushed your teeth……!!!!
But then reality of half term hits as kids are ‘bored’ and we find us counting down the days until they go back!
So what can we do to entertain the kids and get our workout in?
Create a Step Count challenge for you and your children – get a cheap step tracker for each of you (doesn’t really matter how accurate they are as long as it gets you all moving!). Get the kids to help design a leader board and set rewards for meeting set milestones!
Get them outside and create a Simple Treasure Hunt – you can do this anywhere! Just think of some landmarks on-route and give them clues to find them. You could have a handful of letters in your pocket that they have to unscramble to spell out a word. When they reach the landmark, give them one of the letters (if you have more time to plan or more adults you could put the letters out for them to find).
Take Kids Swimming – if you are unable to swim with your little ones, try doing some aqua aerobic style exercises to make the most of your time in the pool! Try marching on spot, high knee jogging, side leg lifts - the water resistance makes for a great workout for you and the kids are happy too!
Go to the Park - play ‘IT’ or ‘TAG’ – a fun way to get some cardio exercise in! You could then use the equipment to have a workout – push-ups against the climbing frame, find a step to do step ups, tri-cep dips against a bench - get the kids to join in and create new exercises you could do using the equipment.
If you have any great ideas to entertain the kids during the holidays whilst getting some fitness time in for you let me know! Email me at email@example.com - I would love to hear your ideas!!
